At the Salk Institute’s Laboratory for Cognitive Neuroscience, our mission is to perform research that improves the lives and well-being of individuals with special needs. We are seeking volunteers to participate in research projects exploring how genes, brain structure, and brain function affect learning and behavior. Our success is dependent upon your help!
We are asking for your help in identifying individuals with Developmental Delay or Mental Retardation who might be qualified for, and interested in, participating in our studies.
Who can participate?
- Individuals (12 - 49 years) with developmental disabilities
- Individuals for whom English is the first and primary language, and who are able to follow basic instructions, communicate verbally, and perform basic motor tasks involving the hands.
- Excluding individuals with Epilepsy/Seizures, Cerebral Palsy, Autism/Asperger Syndrome, Brain Tumor, Encephalitis, Meningitis, MS, Neurosphilis, Stroke, Huntington’s Chorea
How will the project help the participant?
- The Participant will receive a neuropsychological assessment report
- The Participant will receive $10 an hour as an honorarium for participation
What does participation involve?
- 2 sessions of 4 hours each, including behavioral tests & brain wave recordings
- Completion of assessment forms by parent, guardian or case manager.
